Abstract
We report angle resolved valence photoelectron spectra for CO adsorbed on Pd(111) and OPd(111) over a photon energy range of 20–250 eV. An oscillatory behaviour of the photoelectron cross sections of the valence electrons in normal emission is found. This is interpreted as being due to the interference of electron waves emitted from different parts of the wavefunctions of the CO valence orbitals. Therefore the oscillations should contain information about the electron distribution in the individual levels and the internuclear spacings of the molecule.
