Abstract
Reaction-diffusion fronts which occur during the oxidation of adsorbed CO on Pt{100} have been studied with the methods of low-energy electron microscopy (LEEM), selected-area LEED and photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM). The reaction fronts are found to consist of a sequence of moving boundaries separating regions of ordered CO phases. The phase boundaries have a width smaller than the present LEEM resolution of ∼ 100 nm.
