Abstract
Japygidae of Central Amazonian inundation forests pass annual flooding of 5-6 months duration in a cocoon in the soil. The waterproof spun yarn is made by means of secretory glands and spinning hair, both located as a pair at the first abdominal segment. European species of Japygidae show this spinning apparatus as well. Evidence for their spinning capacity, however, has only been reported indirectly.
