Abstract
In the name of his many colleagues, we pay tribute to Giorgio Benedek on his 80th birthday by dedicating to him this themed collection in Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics. Giorgio through his inspiration, deep physical insight, hard work and congeniality continues to contribute much to our scientific endeavors and to the friendship and rapport in our scientific community.
