要旨
The oxidation of alcohols mediated by semiconductor materials was one of the first organic photocatalytic reactions reported as early as the 1960s. Today, it is one of the most studied reactions in photocatalysis. The chapter summarizes a reaction mechanism of alcohol oxidation with O 2 mediated by carbon nitride photocatalysts. Selectivity toward carbonyl compounds and strategies adopted in carbon nitride research to improve selectivity are discussed. These strategies include performing the reaction in flow, the substitution of O 2 with other oxidants, such as S 8 , and employing hydrogen-evolving cocatalysts or photo-chargeable carbon nitrides to enable selective dehydrogenation of primary alcohols.
