Abstract
An extensive literature review was undertaken to better inform the development of government policy relating to the integration of immigrants and refugees in Great Britain. The report begins with a detailed overview of the approach the authors used to search for and select relevant research. Chapter 3 surveys the literature on immigrant and refugee integration. Chapter 4 maps the actual research located with a thematic discussion of the literature. Chapter 5 highlights gaps located in the research literature. The authors present their conclusions in Chapter 6. The appendices include a useful profile of integration models used in selected host countries. The second part of the report includes bibliographies of the academic and NGO/agency materials identified for the study, as well as a list of current research, research centres, and key resources (periodicals, web sites, data sets and organizations). Over 3200 bibliographic references were surveyed. A selection of these studies was analyzed in greater detail in a second volume; see the separate entry for Fyvie et al., 2003.
