Abstract
The Double Chooz (DC) experiment is a reactor electron anti-neutrino oscillation experiment, which is located in France. The main goal of DC is to measure the last unknown neutrino mixing angle θ13 of the transformation matrix UPNMS using electron anti-neutrinos, produced by two identical nuclear reactors. The detection of an electron anti-neutrino takes place via light emission produced in the inverse β-decay. This light is detected by photomultipliers. The electronics in the base of the photomultipliers is surrounded by an acrylic enclosure, filled with a special epoxy. During detector commissioning it was observed that these bases emit light irregularly. This effect is called “lightnoise” and causes an unexpected and additional background. In order to get more information to reduce or eliminate this background, the lightnoise effect of all 402 near detector photomultipliers was analysed. In this thesis, the development of a new test setup, the testing procedure, the data analysis and the results are described. In the second part, the development and characterisation of a base for the Xe1t experiment is shown.
