Zusammenfassung
The following thesis deals with the production of highly charged silicone and chlorine ions for the Pentatrap-experiment at the „stored and cooled ions“ division at the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg. The highly charged ions will be produced and extracted from a commercial table-top electron beam ion trap (Dresden EBIT 3). To supply the ion source with the elements in question, a new inlet system based on the MIVOCmethod (Metal Ions from Volatile Compounds) will be used. As part of the thesis, it was designed, constructed and tested. The needed volatile compounds are chosen and tested for their suitability. In addition, a calibration and determination of the resolution of the bending magnet used in the new beamline setup were done. It has been shown that the constructed inlet system allows reliable automated and network controlled selection of gas and vapor samples in connection with the control system. As well it was proven that both hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane for the production of silicone ions and dichloromethane for the production of chlorine ions are suitable compounds to provide the corresponding elements for the electron beam ion trap. Also an increase in resolution was reached by using a bending magnet instead of a previously used Wien filter.
