Zusammenfassung
The entry introduces the concept of fictional expectations and its relevance for the analysis of environmental issues. Fictional expectations are images concerning future events that potentially guide action despite the uncertainty of future outcomes. They are relevant in conditions of uncertainty. The analysis of environmental issues is a field where the notion of fictional expectations can be especially fruitfully applied. Decisions need to be made in the presence despite high levels of uncertainty regarding future developments and the impact of proposed measures. Images of the future thus play a pivotal role.
