Supplementary information for the GRL paper "Why does the locally induced surface temperature response to land cover change differ across scenarios?" by J. Winckler, C.H. Reick and J. Pongratz, 2017.
For some of the figures input data, from processed versions of primary data is included in the Data subdirectory. For larger data sets, one will have to start from the primary data archives.
Python 2.7-ve3 was used for most analysis and all plotting. CDO processing of primary data was also performed. At the time of preparation of the manuscript cdo version 1.6.4 was used. Plotting and processing scripts are in the Analysis directory
Workflow:
Perform sparse deforestation simulations (1 out of 8 grid boxes) with
-5 different fractions of forest fraction within the LCC boxes
-2 different background climates
-both the unshifted and shifted version (LCC boxes shifted by two)
Isolate the local effects as in the J. Clim. paper by Winckler et al. (2016)
Create look-up curve maps for the two background climates
Get pre- and post-LCC forest cover fraction maps for LULCC and (CILCC plus LULCC)
Use look-up maps to convert the changes in cover fractions into changes in surface temperature
Use plotting scripts to get final plots
