Abstract: Neurotransmitters and antioxidants such as N-acetyl-aspartate (NAA), glutamate (Glu), glutamine (Gln), gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and glutathione (GSH) play an important role in psychiatric pathophysiologies. Their detection in vivo can be performed by the dedicated 1H MRS methods such as PRESS using different echo times, MEGA-PRESS, and 2D JPRESS at 3T. However, the best method to be used is unknown. Therefore, in this work these methods were applied on 40 healthy volunteers and in 4 different brain regions for cross validation. PRESS sequence with the shortest echo time and JPRESS sequence were found to be the best candidates for this purpose.
