Abstract: The main findings of the experiments can be summarized as follows: First, uncertainty in decision making is reflected within mesial BA 8. Second, different variants of uncertainty entailing different coping strategies can be dissociated on the basis of additionally activated networks. And third, the evaluation of increasing positive feedback, not exclusively the acquisition of knowledge, reduces activation within mesial BA 8. Together, activation within mesial BA 8 can be conceived of as an area that tracks more or less uncertain outcomes with regard to an internal model and acts like a steering wheel that directs how uncertainty is dealt with.
