Zusammenfassung
Reading is a complex skill that requires the interplay of various information sources, and that involves a number of psychological processes. Readers must possess knowledge about the writing system, they must have a lexicon of the words existing in their language, and they must have access to some representation of the syntactic rules used to build acceptable sentences. Based on the knowledge representations on these different levels, cognitive processes can be postulated for identifying words and accessing their lexical properties, and for processing of word sequences, i.e., mapping syntactic structures onto semantic interpretations.
